Named thesis // Question-to-Decision Map

What this record proves

A useful cluster begins when raw customer questions are translated into distinct decisions, evidence requirements, and page contracts before a writer opens a draft.

Audit your current customer question map

01 // InputCustomer language

Collect questions from sales calls, support records, search data, and on-site behavior without claiming any one source is complete.

Evidence: measurement-boundary

02 // GroupingSame answer, same node

Questions belong together when one complete answer, evidence set, and next action satisfy them without qualification.

Evidence: logical-organization

03 // SeparationDifferent decision, new node

Split a question when it serves a different buyer, needs different proof, or leads to a different operational action.

Evidence: duplicate-boundary

04 // ContractPurpose plus exclusion

Every planned page states the question it owns and the nearby questions it intentionally delegates.

The Answer

Map questions by collecting the exact language customers use, grouping only questions that share one buyer, answer, evidence set, and next action, and assigning each group to one best page. Before adding anything, compare the plan with the pages already on the business website so the new answer does not repeat or contradict an existing one.

Search Console provides Google query and page observations, not a complete record of questions asked in every AI product. Sales notes and support records also have sampling limits. The map should preserve source, date, and uncertainty instead of presenting collected questions as universal demand.

Claims Bound to Sources

  1. verified // platform-documentation

Google says generative AI features depend on publicly accessible, crawlable content and continue to use core Search systems, while eligibility never guarantees indexing or appearance.

  2. verified // platform-documentation

Google recommends organizing a site logically because that can help people and search systems understand how pages relate, while warning against unnecessary reorganization solely for search engines.

  3. verified // platform-documentation

Google documents redirects, rel canonical annotations, and sitemap inclusion as canonicalization signals and recommends linking internally to the preferred canonical URL.

  4. verified // platform-documentation

Search Console reports query, page, impression, click, and related dimensions for Google Search, but its documentation does not make those observations a complete cross-platform AI citation ledger.

  5. verified // platform-documentation

Google describes sitemaps as signals that identify preferred URLs, not guarantees that every submitted page will be crawled, indexed, or served.

  6. verified // platform-documentation

OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the crawler used to surface websites in ChatGPT search and recommends allowing the bot and its published IP ranges, while making no placement promise.

  7. verified // public-record

The Answer Engine public About record identifies Justin Borges as Founder and AEO Strategist and documents that he developed the AERO-10 framework before offering it through the company.

Where Should You Collect Real Customer Questions?

  1. Review sales conversations

Extract the questions prospects ask before they understand the service, before they trust the provider, and before they agree to a next step. Preserve the buyer role and stage. A question from a business owner evaluating risk should not be blended with a tactical question from an in-house marketer.

  2. Review support and delivery records

Look for recurring misunderstandings after purchase. These questions often reveal missing expectation, process, credential, or measurement pages. Remove personal information and separate product documentation needs from public educational content.

  3. Review Search Console carefully

Use query and page dimensions to see which Google searches exposed current URLs. Treat the report as observed Google Search data with known privacy and grouping limits, not a complete list of demand or proof of AI visibility.

  4. Review on-site search and navigation

Identify terms visitors enter and paths they abandon when those records are collected lawfully. A failed site search can expose missing language, but it can also reflect poor labels or navigation rather than a missing article.

  5. Run documented platform observations

Ask a stable set of buyer questions across selected AI products and record platform, date, location context, prompt, response, links, and uncertainty. Do not convert one response into a market-wide claim.

  6. Normalize without erasing meaning

Correct spelling and merge trivial phrasing variants while retaining differences in buyer, geography, urgency, qualification, or action. Those differences may be the reason two questions need separate nodes.

Evidence: measurement-boundaryopenai-access-boundary

Start with at least three real question sources, keep their dates and buyer roles, and do not present any one source as complete demand.

How Do You Decide Which Questions Belong Together?

Use the answer test first. Draft a one-sentence direct answer for each question. If the answers are materially the same, compare the evidence and action. Questions about whether a method works and how to measure it may sound related, yet the first requires a claim boundary while the second requires an operating procedure. Shared vocabulary alone does not make them one intent.

Use the buyer test next. An owner deciding whether to fund a program needs risk, scope, and decision evidence. A marketer implementing the program needs fields, tools, governance, and review cadence. The same distinction appears in local service businesses: a property owner asking whether a company manages small apartment buildings needs a different answer from a tenant asking how to submit a maintenance request. One page can serve both only if it clearly answers both without forcing either reader through irrelevant sections.

Finish with the exclusion test. Every node should name the nearest questions it does not own. That note keeps future writers from expanding the page until it absorbs its siblings. It also makes editorial review concrete: reviewers can flag a paragraph that belongs elsewhere rather than debating whether the article merely feels too broad.

Evidence: logical-organizationduplicate-boundary

Keep questions together only when one answer satisfies the same buyer and next action; split them when the decision or audience changes.

What Should Happen to Each Question Group?

A live page already answers the group completely with current evidence.
Assign the group to that canonical page, improve weak sections if needed, and add useful links rather than creating a new URL.
A live page partly answers the group but mixes several buyer decisions.
Define the strongest canonical purpose, move distinct subquestions into planned spokes, and preserve redirects or links for any changed paths.
No page owns the question and current official evidence is available.
Create a draft contract with title, slug, buyer, decision, scope, exclusions, sources, and cluster edges before writing prose.
The question is commercially useful but depends on unapproved client results.
Hold it in research with an explicit evidence and authorization gap. Do not replace real proof with generic claims or anonymous performance language.
The question belongs to a different business or audience.
Route it to that separate strategy and avoid cross-client branding, calls to action, or facts in the current cluster.
The question has no useful answer beyond what an existing FAQ already provides.
Keep it as an FAQ or subsection. A separate page should exist because the decision needs depth, not because every query variation deserves a URL.

Evidence: duplicate-boundarylogical-organization

Every question group should end in one of four owner decisions: improve an existing page, create a distinct page, keep it as a subsection, or hold it for evidence.

What Makes a Question Map Reviewable?

What Makes a Question Map Reviewable?
FieldWeak mapping artifactReviewable mapping artifact
Question sourceA spreadsheet of keywords without origin, date, buyer, or business context.Exact question language with source type, observation date, buyer role, and privacy-safe context.
Cluster ruleQuestions are grouped because they share a noun or tool name.Questions are grouped because one complete answer, evidence set, and next action can satisfy them.
Page ownershipSeveral proposed pages claim broad topics such as AI visibility or content strategy. Each page owns one literal question and records which adjacent questions it delegates.
Catalog checkThe map compares only planned titles and ignores live, unavailable, redirected, and draft URLs.The map reconciles every current content state and records the canonical decision for collisions.
Business fitA popular phrase is treated as relevant even when it attracts the wrong buyer or asks about a service the company does not provide. Each question is checked against the intended buyer, actual service, evidence, and next action before it receives a page.

Evidence: measurement-boundaryduplicate-boundary

A useful question map names the buyer, source, answer, and next action for every row; a keyword list without those fields is not enough.

What Should a Customer-Question Worksheet Include?

  • Name the intended buyer, the decision that person is trying to make, and the service the business can actually provide.
  • Record each raw question with its source type, observation date, privacy-safe context, and the normalized form used for grouping.
  • Write one short answer, evidence need, and intended next action for each question group before assigning a page title.
  • Record the comparison with current public pages, planned pages, redirects, and old unavailable URLs so the owner can see whether the answer already exists.
  • Name the main guide, supporting pages, official sources, and the customer reason for each planned internal link.
  • Record missing evidence openly. An empty source field means the question remains research rather than customer-facing guidance.
  • Decide whether the answer belongs in an article, subsection, FAQ, service page, intake guide, or nowhere on the public site.
  • Record the map owner, page owner, evidence source, and review date so changes do not create two pages for the same question.

The owner should be able to trace every planned page to one customer question, one supported answer, and one next step before writing begins.

How Does a Customer Question Become a Page Decision?

  1. Observed language

A source record preserves the customer wording, source type, date, and relevant buyer context without claiming the sample represents the whole market.

  2. Normalized question

Editorial review removes trivial variation while retaining distinctions in buyer, evidence, geography, urgency, qualification, and expected action.

  3. Intent assignment

The map names the canonical page or creates a draft contract with a unique purpose and exclusion boundary.

  4. Evidence assignment

Every material claim category receives current official sources or an explicit unresolved blocker before prose is treated as reviewed.

  5. Catalog check

The final title, public path, availability, and internal links are compared with the current site rather than a stale planning sheet.

  6. Review checkpoint

A named reviewer checks the intended buyer, answer, evidence, and next action again whenever the page materially changes.

Evidence: measurement-boundaryduplicate-boundarylogical-organization

A question becomes a page decision only after its source, buyer, answer, evidence, public path, and review owner all agree.

Who Should Own the Customer-Question Map?

Assign one editor to the question map during each planning cycle. Researchers can submit sourced observations, writers can propose page purposes, and reviewers can challenge distinctions, but one editor should resolve overlaps. This prevents two well-intentioned writers from claiming the same question under different titles. The map should name the buyer, page owner, evidence source, and next review date.

Preserve rejected and deferred groups with reasons. A client-dependent case study, unsupported performance claim, duplicate intent, missing primary source, or out-of-scope buyer question may become eligible later. Deleting the decision invites the same proposal to return. A durable note lets the team reconsider the topic when evidence changes while showing why it does not currently help the intended buyer.

After drafting, compare the finished article with the intended question. Recheck the title, direct answer, buyer, evidence, sections, FAQs, related links, and CTA. If the page now owns a different decision, update the map and the affected pages together. The practical test is simple: a local service owner should be able to name what this page answers, what the next linked page answers, and why both are necessary.

Evidence: logical-organizationduplicate-boundarymeasurement-boundary

Give one person responsibility for resolving overlaps, while letting evidence and customer needs, not job title, determine the final page boundary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should keyword volume decide the content map?

No. Query data can help prioritize observed demand, but the map must begin with a real buyer decision and a useful answer. Low-volume questions can be commercially important, while high-volume phrases can be irrelevant or already satisfied. Record the data source and limits, then weigh business fit, evidence availability, and catalog collision.

Sources: google-search-console

Can Search Console show every question customers ask?

No. Search Console reports Google Search performance for the verified property and applies its own grouping and privacy behavior. It does not represent every spoken question, every AI conversation, every sales objection, or every on-site interaction. Use it as one documented input and keep other sources separate.

Sources: google-search-console

When should two similar questions become separate pages?

Separate them when they serve different buyers, require different evidence, resolve different decisions, or lead to different actions. Keep them together when one complete answer can satisfy both without qualification. The title difference is not enough; the direct answer, outline, evidence, and next step must remain materially distinct.

Sources: google-canonical-guide

Should every mapped question become an article?

No. Some questions belong in an FAQ, service page, comparison table, intake guide, or sales document. A separate article is justified when the question needs independent depth, evidence, maintenance, and a durable URL. Forcing every variation into an article creates thin inventory and increases overlap.

Sources: google-seo-starter

How often should a question map be reviewed?

Review it when the catalog changes, a source becomes stale, a service changes, new customer language appears, or measurement reveals a real gap. A fixed calendar can help operations, but the trigger should be evidence. Record each review date and decision so the team can distinguish current intent ownership from old planning.

Sources: google-search-console

Does a mapped question guarantee that an AI platform will cite the page?

No. The map improves editorial clarity and creates a testable plan. Platform access, crawling, indexing, retrieval, and selection remain separate events outside the publisher's control. Record citations only when observed and preserve the platform, prompt, date, response, and linked source.
